At the heart of Gujo Hachiman, the pristine Yoshida and Kodara Rivers create a tranquil oasis. These waterways have shaped the town's history and culture, and their influence can be felt in every corner. Discover the magic of a place where nature and community blend seamlessly.

Gujo Hachiman is a charming town filled with quaint cafes, cozy eateries, and unique souvenir shops housed in traditional Japanese houses. Famous for its food sample industry and screen printing, visitors can experience hands-on workshops creating these local specialties. But what truly sets Gujo Hachiman apart is its vibrant Bon dance culture. As one of Japan's three major Bon dance towns, the summer festivities are truly something to behold, with colorful lanterns, decorative noren curtains, and the rhythmic sound of geta. Dressed in yukata, visitors can immerse themselves in the traditional atmosphere. We invite you to experience the magic of Gujo Hachiman during the warm summer months.

Quiet waterways crisscross the town. "Yanaka Mizu no Komichi" and "Igawa Komichi" are particularly noteworthy, showcasing Yawata's timeless beauty. These waterways, lovingly tended by generations, offer a serene escape. It's astonishing how many charming shrines and temples are tucked away in this compact town. This abundance is a testament to the town's deep cultural heritage.

Step back in time to a bygone era in this traditional Japanese garden. Nestled on the outskirts of Gujo Hachiman, Jion-zenji Temple offers a serene escape, allowing you to enjoy the tranquility of a nearly private garden. Find peace as you simply contemplate the beauty before you.

Bon Odori festival in Gujo Hachiman is held from July to August.
Gujō-Hachiman is famous all over Japan as the town of Bon dance. Unlike watching the Awa Odori, here you're part of the fun! We dance for 30 days a year, and for four nights straight during Obon, the party never stops until Dawn. Live music and the sound of geta create a truly unique atmosphere. You might wonder, "How can they dance so much?" Well, this is Japan's best place to wear a yukata and geta. Let's put on a yukata and join the night dance!

During the Gujo Odori period, we offer extra options like yukata rental and dance lessons.

8月13日~16日は徹夜で踊り明かします。
The Bon Odori festival in Gujo Hachiman takes place over a period of 30 days from mid-July to early September.
Please refer to this link for the period of the festival.
During the festival, we will be offering special optional programs including dressing, dance practice and Bon Odori experience. Prices range from 15,000 to 25,000 yen per person, and are limited to 15 people per day. Come and enjoy the hottest night in Japan.

Gujo Hachiman Castle is a stunning mountaintop fortress offering breathtaking views of the town. To get there, you'll need to drive up a winding, uphill road. If you're not a confident driver, a taxi is a good option, or you can park at the mid-level parking lot and enjoy a pleasant 10-minute walk. This castle, the oldest wooden reconstruction in Japan, is a must-see year-round, but the spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage create especially magical atmospheres.
